One of the Seven Wonders of the World and a Unesco World Heritage Site, the mile wide, frothing, thundering, Victoria Falls plunges 360 feet to create what the locals call Mosi-oa-Tunya "the Smoke that Thunders". What makes Victoria Falls particularly spectacular is that, due to its unusual form, virtually the whole width of the falls at the bottom can be viewed face-on at the same level as the top from as close as 200 feet. Few other waterfalls allow such a close approach on foot. Fun and unusual activities abound in this area including flights over the falls, helicopter rides, micro lighting, white water rafting, boogie boarding the rapids, bungee jumping, abseiling the gorge and the gorge swing. For the less adventuresome of us there still is plenty of things to do such as canoeing, guided walks, fishing, boating and visits to Livingstone Island. Perched on the edge of the Falls, Livingstone Island is the place from which Dr. Livingstone first viewed the Falls in the early 1850s. | ![]() |
